The incandescent light bulb is slowly being phased out in the U.S. That marvelous invention by Thomas A. Edison has run its course. December 31, 2011 will mark the 132nd anniversary of the day that Edison flipped a switch at his Menlo Park laboratory and turned on the first electric light bulb. The electric light bulb would ultimately replace all gaslight systems. Thus began the age of electric lighting.

Here's OSHA's list of the top 10 safety violations for 2010.  Once again, scaffolding and fall protection are at the top.

1. Scaffolding  - 9,093 violations - Scaffold accidents most often result from the planking or support giving way, or from the employee slipping or being struck by a falling object.

On December 19, 2010, new energy legislation will take effect which impacts the manufacturing of certain industrial motors. The Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007 (EISA) legislation sets stringent new efficiency standards for a broad range of General Purpose and some Definite Purpose 3-phase motors. Motor designs which do not meet the mandated legislation requirements can no longer be manufactured after December 19, 2010.

Let’s face it. The century old Edison bulb is a bad deal. The bulb is cheap to buy but expensive to operate. The bulb wastes 95% of its energy. Over its lifetime, a 60-watt incandescent bulb will cost you roughly $20 more in electricity than a comparable LED bulb that uses 7-10 times less electricity.
