On December 19, 2010, new energy legislation will take effect which impacts the manufacturing of certain industrial motors. The Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007 (EISA) legislation sets stringent new efficiency standards for a broad range of General Purpose and some Definite Purpose 3-phase motors. Motor designs which do not meet the mandated legislation requirements can no longer be manufactured after December 19, 2010.

Some motors can run in both directions, CW/CCW and some can not. All Three Phase motors as well as DC motors can run in both directions. Shaded pole motors will usually run in only one direction unless they are mechanically modified by taking the stator out and reversing it if the manufacturer suggests that. Most all of Capacitor Start and Split Phase motors can be reversed. Most all of Permanent Split Capacitor (PSC) motors can be reversed. The nameplate on the motor is always the best place to check to see.

maximum load" for a winch is determined by the maximum load a winch can pull with only the bottom layer of rope on the drum, an industry standard. Full capacity is retained on the bottom two layers. This rating does not include any friction factors, which will vary according to the
specific applications.

Hydraulic hand pumps that are rated for 40,000 psi are not rated to be plumed in to system with a hydraulic hose. They are required to be hard piped with appropriate tubing that is rated for 40,000 psi with its connections. These are usually operated for test equipment.

Single jacket fire hose is rated for one time use when fighting a fire. These are hoses that are found mainly on rental properties, and are used to contain a fire by residents to evacuate the building. After such use they should be commissioned and no longer used for fire fighting efforts.
